How do you make a reader feel like they aren’t just watching a character, but experiencing the story alongside them? In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore techniques for closing the distance between character and reader and creating a deeper sense of intimacy on the page. Through examples, discussion, and writing exercises, we’ll experiment with interiority, character-specific observation, filtering, sensory detail, and emotional response. Whether you write in first or third person, you’ll learn how to move beyond simply telling readers what a character thinks and feels—and bring them inside the character’s experience.
