Story on Screen: Christmas Edition
Wednesdays - 4-Weeks - Begins November 25th - 5pm-7pm PT
Instructor: Andrew Buckley
Merry Christmas ya filthy animals! Welcome to the Christmas Movie Edition! Film is one of the most powerful storytelling mediums in the world, and Christmas movies come with their own peculiar collection of rules, traditions, tropes, and expectations. This ongoing 4-week film study course explores the craft of cinema through the lens of storytelling. Designed for screenwriters, writers, filmmakers, and passionate movie lovers alike, this festive edition unwraps a curated selection of Christmas movies to discover what makes them work.
Together, we’ll break down structure, character arcs, pacing, dialogue, visual storytelling, tone, genre conventions, and cinematic language. We’ll look at why certain Christmas movies become annual traditions, how filmmakers play with familiar tropes, and what these stories can teach us about creating emotional connections with an audience. Whether you’re developing your own script or simply want to justify watching Christmas movies as “research,” you’ll come away with a sharper eye and a storyteller’s mindset.
